WHAT IS IT? It’s the short (5 mins) live-action pilot for a comedy Wonder Woman TV series that never got off the ground.
GOOD IDEA/BAD IDEA: As a character Wonder Woman has always been about female empowerment and when treated with the correct amount of love and respect the character could truly shine.Of course these two important factors were absent when this pilot was put together, which attempted to follow the success of the popular Batman (1966) series by making the show a comedy.Unfortunately the jokes were cringe worthy and the ‘lightning in a bottle’ effect that Batman had just couldn’t be reproduced again.Oh and of course it was a complete bag of crappola.
WHAT’S THE STORY?
Dull Diana Prince (Wood Walker) is at home reading the paper, when her interfering old bag of a mother (Prickett) calls her for dinner. For Diana the thought of eating yet more slop cooked by the old crone is about as exciting as watching a failed pilot for a TV show; but she goes along with it anyway. The reason behind Diana’s decision to eat the crap she’s being served instead of just ending her miserable life, is because she’s really the super heroine Wonder Woman, a champion of the people, an icon to the masses, a.. a... a...woman who likes to dress up in a star spangled outfit!
Without her Wonder Woman alter-ego Diana would surely have let the cheese slide off her cracker long ago mostly because of how irritating her mother is; so she’s thankful every day that she has this form of escapism. At times she even feels as though she’s trapped in an unfunny comedy where someone is attempting to poke fun at the dreariness of her life.Of course she then reminds herself that such a scenario would not be funny and would not want to be viewed by anyone.Ever!
So, keen to do something with the rest of her day she ignores everything her mother tells her, pushes aside her dinner, transforms into Wonder Woman and leaves discreetly out of the window.Once outside she considers killing her mother using numerous techniques undetectable by forensic science.
WONDER MOTHER: *Diana has seen many comedies in her short life and has often believed that the way to make a comedy really funny is to produce some razor sharp material that can appeal to almost anyone.Diana has also seen the Wonder Woman pilot. To this day she is unaware that it is supposed to be a comedy.
*Diana’s mother has often dreamt about becoming Wonder Woman so that she can escape the loneliness of being a housewife.Diana has often dreamt about smothering her mother in her sleep.
*Following on from the Wonder Woman pilot Diana’s mother was offered a starring role in three other TV shows. The first show saw her play a mother trapped in a loveless marriage. The second saw her become a single mother ditched by her ungrateful husband. In the final show she played a corpse. After all three shows wrapped she admitted the parts were pretty much one and the same.
