Great heroes need great villains. For this reason the Ultimate Team-Up (seen previously on The Comics Code), could not be the ultimate team-up without an ultimate set of villains to square up to. So kicking off shortly I’ll be revealing the names of the 16 team members who have become The Comics Code’s Ultimate Super Villain Team-Up! What follows will be a glimpse into the files of some of the biggest and meanest bad asses to ever appear in the pages of a comic! Their files are collected together to form one crazy crime syndicate, the likes of which has never been seen before. Some of the names you’ll expect, others you’ll be surprised at and I’m sure there will be a few that will have you emailing in with your complaints. So why exactly does The Comics Code need a team-up of scum and villainy?
Every good hero has his (or her) arch enemy and no matter how many times a hero manages to put a stop to their tirade of tyranny, the villain always comes back for more. Super villains have become a staple of the comic-book industry for years and with their complete disregard for the safety and security of the human race and they’re often disastrous fashion sense they’ve become a source of constant interest for readers. There are villains who want to rule the world, there are villains who want to take over the universe and there are some villains who just want to rob the odd bank or two and then go and spend the money on flat-pack furniture from IKEA (probably). Every villain has a different reason for his (or her) crime and yet the one thing that they all share in common is that they never seem to get away with it. Oh they all experience minor victories, but the Comic-Book Rule Of Villainy states that any super villain engaging in vile and demented behaviour must get his (or her) comeuppance sooner rather than later. For this reason those villains that are sent home licking their wounds often find solace amongst their own kind...which has then led to the super villain team-up!
The Sinister Six, the Frightful Four, the Legion of Super Villains are all prime examples of a good super villain team-up, but they’re also good examples of failure! Banding together super villains is a tricky task and one that needs careful planning and attention to detail. So prepare yourselves dear readers because shortly you are about to witness the dawning of a new age, where super villainy reaches new heights (and possibly new failures). Like before, when compiling the Ultimate Team-Up there are villains that won’t be included, such as Deadpool, who practically appears in places even water can’t go and who doesn’t need to be a member of a team. Oh and don’t expect to see Lobo or Venom either, because excessive comic-book appearances throughout the ‘90s automatically ruled those guys out of the running. Anyway, it’s time to see who made it into the exclusive group, so prepare yourselves as I open up the secret files of...
