What’s better than ONE superhero having amazing adventures and knocking the stuffing out of supervillains? Well if you believe the answer to be TWO superheroes having amazing adventures and beating the life out of the bad guys, then you’d only be half right! The real answer that I’m looking for is a WHOLE GROUP of superheroes having whacky adventures and kicking some serious ass! Yep ever since someone thought it would be a good idea to stick superheroes together to form a group, there has been what is commonly known in comics as the ‘team-up’! From Batman and Superman joining forces in the pages of World’s Finest, to the Avengers inviting pretty much every hero in the Marvel Universe to join its ranks; there have been team-ups cropping up in the pages of comics for years. They’re a great selling point for publishers wanting to attract new readers to characters they wouldn’t usually give a second look at…. and often they can be a hell of a lot of fun!
Of course there has always been a bit of a problem with the basics of team-ups and that is the fact that different characters are owned by different companies. So say you want to see the Hulk partnered with Batman, or you want to see Spawn, the Fantastic Four, Concrete and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles all working together, then the chances are it won’t happen (or at least won’t happen too often). There have been times when characters from different companies have appeared in other characters comics, but it’s not a regular thing and it’s not always the characters that you want to see.
So… always keen to provide you the loyal readers with more of what you want, I have delved deep into the archives to find candidates for what will be the greatest team-up…ever! I’ve looked high, I’ve looked low and I’ve even looked through many ‘permanent school records’, in order to whittle down membership to just sixteen lucky applicants. Many characters were considered, but ultimately (and often for the purposes of entertainment) only the best were chosen. Some readers will question the choices, others will demand more Deadpool and Wolverine, but regardless all choices are final for the construction of The Comics Code’s super-group. Those that have been considered for inclusion have had to go through a stringent process to prepare them for any mission that may arise and each member has had to prove their worth. To make things fair characters like Deadpool and Wolverine haven’t made it into the group, simply because they get enough exposure as it is. Jeez, Wolverine is practically in every group going anyway, so he’s busy enough as it is. Likewise Superman and Batman haven’t made it in either, because let’s be honest, Superman is so powerful it hardly seems worth putting him in a group. Yes I am aware he’s a member of the Justice League, but despite all the interesting god comparisons associated with the League (which make it acceptable that he’s a member) with a powerhouse like him in the team, it hardly seems worth the likes of Aquaman turning up for work! As for Batman, he’s pretty much a one-man army and that just removes all of the fun of a team-up. Oh and remember this is top secret stuff, so trust no one, tell no one and above all else don’t expect to see Wolverine!
Anyway if you want to see who made the grade, then take a peek through the secret files that follow and prepare yourself for….
