GOOD IDEA/BAD IDEA:
Think about it for just one second, it was a musical concert featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. A concert where the Turtles gave up their weapons to embrace the power of song. Apparently this was all Splinter's idea.
Clearly that was one rat who was ready for the retirement home.
Anyway, look at how the Turtles were dressed, think about your favourite heroes 'rocking out' with guitars telling youngsters that weapons were bad and then take another couple of seconds to process that thought. Yes, it really was that awful.
Coming Out Of Their Shells was sponsored by Pizza Hut and featured such classic songs as 'Skipping Stones', 'Walking Straight' and 'Pizza Power' (that last one was accompanied by dancing delivery men). It even had chief villain Shredder performing a rap.
Jeez, it was like watching Bryan Adams, Status Quo and Barney the dinosaur all blended into one horrific pantomime. Years of therapy no doubt followed for many youngsters.
The important thing that we all learned back in 1990 was that music and pizza made a great combination. Which is why we now all sit around listening to phat beats, stuffing ourselves with delicious pizza.
