WHAT WAS GOOD?
Captain Haddock was good!
No, no, Captain Haddock was brilliant!
In fact Captain Haddock was pure genuis, wrapped in a caricature of a washed up old seadog and put on display for all to see! His partnership with Tintin was a true highlight of the movie and his inability to work without being inebriated was the perfect accompaniment to Tintin's enthusiasm. Oh and Tintin wasn't too bad either!
Other highlights included:
Tintin and Haddock's motorcycle ride (complete with bazooka!).
Tintin's dog Snowy and pickpocket Aristides Silk.
Director Spielberg's sense of urgency when telling the story.
The fact that the characters didn't have 'dead eyes' like the human characters that appeared in earlier motion capture movie The Polar Express (2004).
Haddock lighting a 'small fire' in a boat!
WHAT WAS BAD?
The motion capture work/animation on The Secret Of The Unicorn was top notch, however the human characters still looked a bit... stiff. Their movements were at times a little bit static, but the biggest problem was that their heads were just so damn big!!! Having a bunch of characters with out of proportion heads was really distracting and...
...OK, it's a minor thing, but it was very distracting!!!
