Tina – “Barry, this is Pollux.”
WHAT IS IT? It’s a very dull episode of the 90s live-action Flash TV show, where Barry Allen aka The Flash, gets... yawn... cloned!
GOOD IDEA/BAD IDEA: The Flash borrowed heavily from 1989s Batman film, showed some potential with the basic premise and if it had been given another series it may have improved.Sadly episodes such as Twin Streaks were just boring, and the sexual chemistry between the two leads was as limp as a pensioner after the Viagra has worn off.
WHAT’S THE STORY?
Tina McGee (Pays), Barry Allen’s best friend/love interest/boffin buddy/potential bit of stuff, is complaining... again. It seems that she is getting more than a bit frustrated with Barry’s need to get things done really quickly.Barry (Shipp) is of course The Flash and so he likes nothing better than to get in and do a job faster than most, but Tina thinks that in her eyes this isn’t doing him any favours.Lucky for her there just happens to be a new Flash on the scene, only this one’s blue, technically Barry’s clone and calls himself Pollux.Turns out that Pollux was genetically created in a lab by two misguided scientist evil-types, and they don’t really seem to care much for him as they’re all about the science. This is a shame, as all Pollux really wants is a friend and so it’s fortunate that when Tina and Pollux meet, she is so intrigued to find out if Pollux is like Barry, she befriends him.
After spending a few minutes with Pollux she finds out that apart from being mentally a bit slower, he is practically the same as Barry. At this point a light bulb switches itself on in her head and she considers the fun she could have with two Flashes!Barry however is not so convinced and reminds her that although two of him would mean twice the action, it would also mean it would be over twice as fast.Tina agrees and decides it is probably best all round to remain sexually repressed as after all this is the 1990s, and promiscuity is about as welcome as a fart in lift.Pollux however is a bit sad about it, as even if she is a bit sour and about as sexually appealing as an ice cube, he wouldn’t have minded having a go with her.
As it happens none of this matters one bit as he burns himself out, and simply vanishes from existence leaving Tina and The Flash a twosome again.Tina is upset he’s gone, but is comforted in the fact that this proves Barry should slow down a bit, meaning she was right.Barry on the other hand tells her that even if she told him the sky was blue he still wouldn’t listen to her, as all this time spent with a guy who looked like him has made him realise he is in love with himself.Tina can’t believe her luck and so she decides that maybe she’d be better off hitting on Batman, as at least she might get a go on the Bat-pole.
WHAT A LOAD OF POLLUX: *The name Pollux comes from the twins Castor and Pollux, and is not down to a typo on the script.... as most people would presume.
*Despite being quicker than a Flash, Barry Allen has successfully satisfied many women.... or so he claims.
*The Flash often gets mistaken for Flash Gordon. He says that it doesn’t bother him, but secretly he cries a little each time someone hums the Flash Gordon track by Queen.
