Spider-man – “I knew we couldn’t get away with that one twice.”
WHAT IS IT? It’s a crap episode, of the crap animated Spider-man Unlimited series, which was a crap sort-of spin-off show, of the brilliant 90s Spidey cartoon.Oh and it makes very little sense. So in answer to the question, it’s just Crap!
GOOD IDEA/BAD IDEA: The 90s Spider-man animated series was fantastic and although when it came to an end it clearly was the right time to bow out, there was still a built in fan base ready to follow Spidey on his next adventure.Batman Beyond had proved a worthy futuristic spin-off from Batman: The Animated Series, so Spider-man Unlimited looked as if it had the potential to do the same.It did not.In fact it was lame, coming nowhere near the level of quality Batman Beyond conveyed and was more or less an insult to the Spidey show it followed. It was also bonkers.
WHAT’S THE STORY?
Possibly angered from being outbid on Ebay for a DVD of Teen Wolf Too (1987), or possibly because Were-wolves tend to just be a bit grumpy, the misunderstood Man-Wolf (Payne) is smashing up the city.Whatever the cause of his anger, it attracts the attention of Spider-man (Romano) who up until this point had been doing whatever a spider does; which is pretty much nothing. So worrying that the citizens will start to think he’s a bit of a lazy-ass bum, Spidey has a chat with Man-Wolf to calm him down and figure out why he’s so pissed off.Man-Wolf tells Spidey it involves some place where there’s some resistance... against some evil.... or something... which makes little sense, but as it sounds like a bit of a laugh Spidey agrees to go with Man-Wolf to check it out.
Spidey quickly discovers it’s not just Man-Wolf who seems a bit crazy, because suddenly Spider-man’s old nemesis Electro turns up, dressed as an eel!Spidey thinks this is all a bit fishy, and if he’s being honest with himself he knows everything today has been a little off.In fact all the nonsensical happenings including talking to a half man/half wolf and an eel, make him question if all the years of fighting bad guys have finally caused him to go off his nut, or if someone has slipped him something when he wasn’t looking.
With Spidey’s head mashed, Electro sees this as his chance to wander off, because after all he just lives in the city, meaning he doesn’t pretend to understand what the hell the point of it all is...or even the point of his existence as an eel!Man-Wolf also thinks maybe it’s time to go home, as he’s starting to get the munchies and couldn’t even begin to fathom what’s happening even if he wanted to.At this point Spidey presumes he must have wandered down a rabbit hole or something because he can’t make anything about the last couple of hours come together in his mind.Either way he decides if everyone is calling it a night, he should too.So Spidey returns to the comfort of his own home vowing to never tell anyone what just happened; and then he sits at his computer to pay for a DVD of Teen Wolf Too, which he won on Ebay earlier that day.
KNOW YOUR LIMITS: *Man-Wolf once said he liked Teen Wolf Too more than the original Teen Wolf film.
*Spider-man actually hates Teen Wolf Too, but systematically buys copies of the DVD on Ebay so that he can scratch the discs, rendering them unplayable.
*Electro has no opinion on Teen Wolf or the sequel Teen Wolf Too, because as he points out, “I’m a f***ing eel for f*** sake.I have much bigger problems in my life!”
