WHAT IS IT?
Oh dear lord, it's Robocop 3 the Robcop sequel that no one asked for and nobody deserved. However before running it into the ground....
...Robocop 3 was the third film in the Robo-franchise and starred Robert John Burke as the half-man, half-machine. Burke took over the role from former Robo-star Peter Weller and appeared alongside returning Robo-actress Nancy Allen as officer Anne Lewis. In the second sequel to the hit-original, Robocop defied the orders of his owners/creators OCP by helping out a group of down-and-outs who were.... doing something... erm... rebellious.
Look it was all very tedious and not worth thinking about.
Oh and Nancy Allen's character Officer Lewis was barely in Robocop 3 as she was killed off after 5 minutes of screen time!!!!
Robocop was originally scheduled for release in 1992 but was held back until 1993 because production company Orion Pictures entred bankruptcy. The film grossed just over $10 million from a budget of $22 million, which made it a resounding flop!
WHAT WAS GOOD?
During one scene in the final act of Robocop 3, Robocop slips on a jet pack and flies. It was dumb, the special effects looked daft and it probably shouldn't have happened, yet in the crap-o-rama that was Robocop 3 it was the only highlight.
WHAT WAS BAD?
Everything else was bad in Robocop 3. The film was given a lower rating than previous movies Robocop (1987) and Robocop 2 (1990) and boy did it show! The over-the-top violence that was depicted in the first two movies was replaced by pedestrian action sequences, whilst the overall look of the film was considerably cheaper.
Killing off Officer Lewis was also a shame as she was an important part of Robocop's journey to regaining his humanity. The real wasted opportunity was that OCP didn't try to resurrect the fallen police officer to create a Robo-Lewis.
The less said about the robo-ninja's, the return of ED 209 and the introduction of chief villain Paul McDaggett, the better.
