WHAT IS IT?
It's the pilot episode to the short-lived TV series, No Ordinary Family. The show ran on ABC and centred upon an 'ordinary' family given extraordinary powers following a plane crash. Former Shield star Michael Chiklis headed up the group as Jim Powell, whilst former Angel actress Julie Benz played his wife Stephanie. Kay Panabaker and Jimmy Bennett rounded out the main cast as the Powell children Daphne and JJ, respectively.
The pilot aired in 2010 and was met with mostly positive reviews, however over the course of the next 19 episodes the ratings dropped and the show was cancelled in 2011.
WHAT WAS GOOD?
Despite a very familiar premise (Fantastic Four meets Heroes) the pilot for No Ordinary Family was fairly enjoyable. The 45 minute episode showed how the Powells obtained their special abilities and led to a couple of fun moments as Jim tested out the levels of his strength. The scene where Jim discovered he could leap tall buildings in a single bound was good fun and his relationship with best bud and confident George also showed potential. Michael Chiklis was also the perfect lead for the show and as origin stories go the pilot was entertaining enough to ensure that the story didn't sag too much.
WHAT WAS BAD?
With so many superhero shows and films doing the rounds the pilot for No Ordinary Family failed to stand out from the crowd. Sure it was fun and ideas were clearly put in place that could be developed further down the line but it was nothing more than ordinary.
