Gimmicky villains are just that; villains intended for one-off gimmick appearances. Mysterio could have easily fallen into that category as he was a villain who was an expert in special effects and who wore a giant dome on his head. Not only that but he was more theatrical than an amateur production of Othello and when compared to many of Spider-man's foes he hardly seemed the most menacing. Yet none of that mattered as Mysterio always managed to come up with a plan that would screw with Spidey's mind and generally ruin his day.
Although Mysterio lacked any 'real' super powers, he was an expert illusionist, a fantastic prop maker and one heck of a magician and he certainly put David Copperfield to shame. Mysterio isn't just a Pulp Idol, he's the number 1 gimmicky Pulp Idol... and The Comics Code wouldn't have it any other way!
