WHAT WAS GOOD?
GIJ:TROC was very much a case of 'entertainment' over substance and so if you could forgive the cheesy storyline and paperthin characters then there was much to enjoy about the movie.
It was fun to see characters such as Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow on the big screen and their legendary rivalry allowed for much sword swinging action. Channing Tatum proved a capable lead and the evil scheming of Cobra allowed for a larger-than-life threat, which was enough to keep the story ticking along between set pieces.
Additional highlights included: The destruction of the Eifel Tower; the Joe's super-powered battle-suits and the finale that suggested that Cobra was working towards a bigger plan.
WHAT WAS BAD?
Erm... it was pretty much a dumb-ass movie that at times was like watching someone reinact their favourite action scenes with their favourite action figures. The movie also took many liberties with the characters (which pissed off a few fans), with Baroness and Cobra Commander in particular becoming shades of their cartoon/toy/comic counterparts.
In short, GIJ:TROC wasn't particularly original or even dynamic, it was more popcorn fodder for an undemanding summer audience.
