It’s the first issue of Foxfire, published by Malibu... which was sort of owned by Marvel Comics...which is why the X-Men get a brief mention in the story.
GOOD IDEA/BAD IDEA:
Malibu Comics tried (it really did) but the stories being published never could quite match up to those coming from the big boys (Marvel & DC).A prime example was Foxfire #1 that started off on an uneven footing by referring to other comics that featured the X-Men that sounded far more interesting and just highlighted that there were better stories going on elsewhere. It was also typical of the dross that was being pumped out during the comics boom of the 90s, where boring super heroes (or heroines in this case) were given books, yet they themselves had no substance to keep the issues coming. There was nothing remotely exciting about the opening issue of Foxfire, which featured a ‘cliffhanger’ ending that was as forgettable as the events that led up to the last few pages.
WHAT’S THE STORY?
Rose Autumn is being detained and questioned by the police about her involvement in a much more interesting story that involved the Marvel’s no.1 super-group the X-Men.Unfortunately, as Rose is keen to make it to at least a second issue of the comic-book Foxfire she doesn’t want to talk about it too much as she’d much rather get going with her own adventure.Sadly for Rose her own adventure consists of her turning into an ‘ultra’ (a super powered being in the Malibu Universe) and going down a sewer.
Deep, deep down in the toilet of comic-book hell, known as the sewers of the Malibu Universe, Rose feels as if something smells a bit off and she soon discovers there’s a cannibal lurking about in the murky waters. This is bad news for Rose, but as she starts fighting for her life a giant blue creature called Sludge arrives to lend a hand even though it’s not explained who he is...unless you happen to have read twelve issues of his solo comic.Rose hasn’t read his comic, but she doesn’t let that worry her because she’s bored and so she soon decides to sack it off so she can put in a call to the Marvel offices to see if she can get a guest spot in an X-Men comic, or at the very least an issue of Marvel Comics Team-Up.
Rose is still waiting for someone to return her call.
BURNED: *Rose isn’t an actual fox.Just in case you didn’t know.
*Whilst down in the sewers Rose discovered that shit sticks to anything. To be honest you’d have thought she’d have already figured that from spending so much time in the Malibu Universe.
*The X-Men deny all knowledge of ever speaking to Rose...and you can’t blame them really.
