Wheeler – “Hey that’s my ring.”
WHAT IS IT? It’s a rather dull episode of Captain Planet, the show not based on a comic, but featuring an environmentally aware super hero!
GOOD IDEA/BAD IDEA: The idea behind Captain Planet, the environment-championing super hero, originated from good intentions as an attempt to shine light on all the problems humanity caused Earth. The show ran for 6 seasons, featured numerous famous voices amongst the cast and so it was clear there was an audience for a show of that kind. However The Littlest Planeteer was a prime example of how dull some of the episodes could be and how once again the Planeteers would come across a problem which required Captain Planet’s help to save their asses!
WHAT’S THE STORY?
Being thoroughly evil (environmentally evil as well no less), Dr Blight sets her latest deadly weapon, an experimental smog cloud, on a school bus.Lucky for all the brats on board the ‘always happy to please’ Planeteers arrive just in time to save the day and kick some smoggy ass. This annoys Blight who not only hates the Planeteers and kids on school buses in general, but also dislikes it when her smog clouds are not given the potential to breathe.Temporally defeated she goes back to the drawing board and turns the smog cloud into a smog monster!
Meanwhile fire wielding Planeteer Wheeler befriends Jason one of the brats on the bus, who starts getting friendly with him and takes an interest in Wheeler’s ring! This worries Wheeler a little as he’s never had another guy show so much interest in this personal area of his before. If he’s honest with himself he’s a little flattered, but flattery aside he’s not entirely comfortable with it and suggests that Jason back off just a little.Jason hears what Wheeler is saying, but is a little selfish and so decides to just go ahead and abuse Wheeler’s ring anyway...because he’s a bit of a douche.
With Wheeler preoccupied and shocked at Jason’s actions, Dr Blight unleashes her monster on the city, causing a whole boat load of smoggy trouble and for Wheeler this all goes down like a runny turd in a swimming pool. He’s already got enough on his plate dealing with Jason and with this smog monster becoming a ball ache too many he enlists the help of his environmentally aware friend Captain Planet; the guy who basically solves all his problems. Before anyone can say ‘inappropriate behaviour’ Cap arrives, takes care of the monster and tells Jason to back off from Wheeler because they’re ‘special friends’ and this situation isn’t cool. With everything back to the way it was, Wheeler tells Jason that in future he should ask before touching another blokes ring, because even though he is a man of the 90s, there are certain lines a stranger should never cross. He also tells him that if it happens again he’ll tell Captain Planet that Jason called him a dick.
RINGING IN THE CHANGES: *Since the ‘incident’ with Jason, Captain Planet has become very protective over Wheeler and barely lets him out of his sight. This has started to cause Wheeler many problems, as a boy his age needs some private ‘alone time’ every once in a while.
*Jason admitted that this whole situation was just a misunderstanding and would really rather forget it.He also said that if Captain Planet spent more time with Wheeler and less time prancing around in Lycra flexing his Pecs, then this kind of confusion wouldn’t happen.
*In a recent behind the scenes documentary, The Planeteers revealed that they were never really friends with Captain Planet because most evenings he was always ‘picking up trash’, much to their disgust.Cap later denied such allegations, but said whatever he did with his free time was his business and no one else’s.
