To reignite the Bat-franchise with a bat-to-basics approach, after Batman & Robin (1997) bombed at the box-office.
OH.SO WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED?
Well at first Batman & Robin director Joel Schumacher approached Warner Bros about making the next Batman film a dark adaptation of Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One graphic novel, but Warner’s were more interested on using a different director. In stepped Darren Aronofsky and Frank Miller who were keen to push forward with a script for Aronofsky to direct that would disregard the previous Batman movies...oh and Christian Bale was approached for the role of Batman.
BUT WHAT DID HAPPEN?
After much consideration Warner’s decided that the best way forward for Batman was under the watchful eye of Christopher Nolan and ultimately opted for Batman Begins (2005) instead.
WAS THIS SUCH A GOOD THING?
Yes, yes, hell yes!Although Batman Begins covered a lot of the early life of Bruce Wayne and was similar in tone to Batman: Year One, it took a different direction which proved a winner at the box-office.
BUT WHAT IF?
Well if Year One had have gone ahead then Darren Aronofsky would have been so busy with Bat-duties that he probably would never have gotten around to making The Wrestler (2008).That would have robbed Mickey Rourke of his ‘come back’ role and who knows who would have appeared instead?!Paul Bearer?
