To move Batman into the future via a live-action adaptation of the Batman Beyond animated series, to escape the terrible reception Batman & Robin (1997) received.
OH.SO WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED?
Paul Dini (one of the guys behind Batman Beyond) was set to write the script which would have seen an elderly Bruce Wayne swap his batsuit for a bathrobe and slippers.Terry McGinnis would have then taken on the mantle of the bat in a futuristic Gotham City.
BUT WHAT DID HAPPEN?
Very early on Warner’s opted not to continue with the project and focused on Batman: Year One.
If Batman Beyond had developed further than the early gestation period then it would have seen a more sci-fi orientated Batman, which would have looked cool, yet probably wouldn’t have helped him in the long run.Batman needed to be brought back to basics and having a futuristic setting would have made it seem too much like Judge Dredd (1995) or Demolition Man (1993).With both of those films having Sylvester Stallone in the title role it wouldn’t have been too much of a stretch of the imagination to presume he’d have appeared in Batman Beyond as well.Oh, and if Sly was going to be there, then surely there was a role for his mother Jackie?!
